We’ve made ourselves at home in Madrid airport. What began as a 90 minute plane swap is turning into a 9 hour layover thanks to strikes and volcanoes (not the Icelandic one, but one in Guatemala and another in Ecuador). It’s just after 11pm and we’ve got another 4 or 5 hours to wait provided nothing else erupts, explodes or decides it doesn’t fancy going to work.
Madrid Barajas is supposedly one of the top 5 busiest airports in the world but terminal 4 was empty when we arrived.
Delays and hold ups are all part of the experience but was it too much to ask that the first leg of the journey would get us where we wanted to go as planned? Apparently.
With no more delays we should be in the air by 03:30am Madrid time for an 11 hour flight. We’ll arrive in Lima 31 hours after leaving home.
Still, it’s given us the time to get the site online and put together this admittedly-not-very-exciting first post. Hopefully we’ll have more interesting news as the week continues…
¡Hasta Luego!

Hope you’re up, up and away by now!! xxx
Hi there
Your Mum phoned last night and mentioned your blog site. So just wanted to say “hello” from all of us and to wish you a fantastic time. Bit of an irony being held up by a volcano other than the Icelandic one!! Maybe you can practice your Spanish while you’re stuck in Madrid.
Have a great time and hope to see you in December and hear all about your travels.
Chris, Deb, Rach, Sam and Nei xx
Hey Guys, Just thought I’d say congrats on getting underway and hope everything is going well!
